Director,LLB
Rob’s main areas of practice are immigration, employment, property, business and public law. Rob brings something special to his legal practice. He has a wide range of life experiences having worked in the meat industry, rail transport and the union movement before becoming a lawyer. His business clients are active in a wide range of business pursuits including manufacturing, hospitality, employment recruitment, house construction and a host of other business activities. Rob’s private clients come from a wide range of ethnic and professional backgrounds. Rob prides himself on providing each client, regardless of their ethnicity or employment status, with his total commitment to a first class legal and professional service.
Over the last few years Rob and his team have been very busy in the immigration, employment, business and property sectors. He has assisted a very large number of migrants to settle in New Zealand in most categories. In terms of immigration work, Rob believes we should put ourselves in our client’s shoes when giving advice and be aware that clients are often making some of the biggest decisions of their lives and as such our advice must be robust and thorough.
Rob has been actively involved with a number of successful non-government sector organisations, including being Chairperson of the highly successful Aranui Community Trust and the Salisbury Street Foundation. He has also played quite an active media liaison role on behalf of a number of his clients. Being commercially minded, Rob also sees himself as a problem solver and is always looking for positive results for clients – even where the situation may seem impossible. He believes lawyers need to come down from their “ivory towers” and that legal advice should be focused on achieving practical results as opposed to legal outcomes.
Rob is married to Lianne Dalziel, the mayor of Christchurch, who was a former member of Parliament for Christchurch East, and a former Minister of Immigration and Commerce.
